Gialdi Vini was founded in 1953 by Guglielmo Gialdi. Today, his son, Feliciano, heads up the company. Originally established as a wine merchant, the firm underwent a major transformation in 1984 when Feliciano acquired wine operations in the lower Leventina and began producing Ticino wines. Thanks to Gialdi Vini’s substantial and ongoing investments in its wineries in Mendrisio and Bodio, the business, which today includes the company Brivio Vini (since 2001), now processes nearly a million kilograms of grapes into wine every year. Gialdi’s wide range of products features wines from Sopraceneri, the grapes for which are provided by more than three hundred winegrowers from the lower Leventina, Riviera and Bleniotal areas who have been cultivating grapes with care and passion for generations. Recently Gialdi Vini expanded its production and equipped its operations with state-of-the-art technology. A number of buildings belonging to the company were renovated, including the magnificent wine cellars known as “cantine”, which are characteristic of Mendrisio and the whole of Mendrisiotto. These wine cellars are partially built into the mountainside so they can make use of air flows circulating in the Monte Generoso massif which create constant temperatures year-round and an ideal climate for storing wine. Here, the best Gialdi wines are left to age in oak casks. Several rooms were also tastefully renovated and now serve as a guest house for wine-tasting and a multi-purpose facility suitable for meetings and conferences.
Gialdi Vini’s commitment to producing only the very best terroir wines has made the company a leader among Ticino winemakers.

The close collaboration and mutual trust that characterizes our relationship to our many winegrowers has passed from generation to generation and finds its reward in the ever-growing number of dedicated growers who bring their grapes to our cellars. The vineyards are situated for the most part in the region of the Tre Valli, above all in the communities of Giornico, Biasca and Malvaglia. The soils of this mountainous region are largely made up of granite and gneiss, lending the wines a healthy acidity and minerality typical of their origins and contributing to their unique character and aging potential.

Cellar technology

Steady and sizable investments in technological improvements allow us to offer our customers a vast selection of wines each with its own varietal character and distinct viticultural origins. In order to both increase and optimize our production of wines from the Mendrisiotto, 2010 saw a major enlargement of the cellars in Mendrisio. Our professional staff together with the latest technological innovation allow us to bring out the best of what nature offers us, producing high-quality wines that are the full expression of their specific viticultural origins.

Aging

While we attach the greatest importance to modern techniques and technology in the fermentation of our wines, for their aging we rely on tradition. Aging of the wines occurs in French oak barrels that lie in our centuries-old cellars dug deep into the rock at the base of Monte Generoso. Ideal atmospheric conditions of constantly cool temperatures and just the right humidity are naturally maintained and assure the quality of our prized wines.

In 2008, our guest house Le Palme was created when we renovated an old cellar in the park of our estate to receive larger groups for presentations and tastings.
